G-BiKE: una COST Action dedicata alla biodiversità genetica

Image: 000

The COST Action G-BikE (Genomic Biodiversity knowledge for Resilient Ecosystems) coordinated by FEM, has involved all 40 European member countries in the COST Association. The purpose of the 4-years-activity is to finally give due prominence to the basic component of biodiversity, the genetic one. It represents the basis
on which natural selection operates and, simplifying, can be seen as the genetic diversity that is expressed within each population of living organisms. Without genetic diversity there can be no ability to adapt to global changes.
This event aims to present the main results achieved so far by G-BiKE, which have lead to the new framework agreement of the Convention on Biological Diversity ratified in December 2022 in COP-15. Also known as Kumning-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, it provides that genetic diversity is included for the first time at the level of main Goals (strategic vision), Target (practical objectives to be achieved) and equipped with a specific indicator
