The Research and Innovation Centre (CRI) of the Fondazione Edmund Mach pursues scientific research, develops biotechnologies, and promotes innovation for agriculture, bioeconomy, ecology, biodiversity, the environment and food.

Mission: the main research objectives of the Fondazione E. Mach are to increase social and economic growth in the agrifood and environmental sectors, prerequisites for improving the quality of life in the region hosting the Foundation's Research and Innovation Centre.

Strategy: by applying the most advanced scientific approaches with cutting-edge technological equipment, the Centre is well-placed as a hub of excellence, with the capacity to generate new knowledge and achieve ambitious objectives.

The Centre is an active member of the Trentino research network, and contributes to the cultural and economic growth of the area by promoting scientific excellence, rapid technology transfer, and commercial development of research output. In particular, the Centre focusses on basic and applied research on:

  • strategic supply chains of the Trentino agrosystem
  • forest and alpine ecology
  • biodiversity evolution and conservation
  • effects of climate change on natural and agro ecosystems
  • bioeconomy
  • agrobiotechnology. 

The Centre promotes the establishment of new research networks between researchers, research institutes and/or private stakeholders at the local, interregional and international levels.

The Centre benefits from state-of-the-art scientific instruments, organized into 21 technological platforms and three germplasm banks. Multidisciplinary collaborations within the Centre are guaranteed by a matrix organization and transversal integration on major research topics exploiting the expertise of the 21 Research Units focussing on 4 thematic areas.
