Dr. Lucia Zanovello, a young researcher in the Conservation Genomics Unit, has been awarded the Best Scientific Contribution - Under 30 category at the 19th Congress of the Italian Association of Freshwater Ichthyologists (AIIAD), held in Parma last October.
The awarded research, carried out under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Gandolfi, focuses on the study of the stone loach (Barbatula barbatula), a species classified as vulnerable according to the Italian Red List. By analyzing 205 samples collected across Italy and Austria, the team identified three genetically divergent lineages, highlighting the need to revise the species' taxonomy and conservation strategies.
This prestigious recognition celebrates the talent and dedication of the young researcher, embodied in a high-quality scientific contribution that demonstrates an innovative approach and solid expertise in addressing crucial issues for biodiversity conservation.
Congratulations to Lucia on this significant achievement!
