At the XXVII International Congress of Entomology (ICE2024 ), held in Kyoto, Japan, from August 23 to 29, 2024, a PhD student from the Edmund Mach Foundation (FEM) and the University of Trento stood out by earning a prestigious award for his work in the field of biotremology, a discipline focused on vibrational communication in insects.
Lorenzo Fellin, now in the third year of his PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Center for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (C3A), was honored with the Presentation Awards for Young Scientists (PAYS) for his presentation titled, 'Influence of Vibrational Cues on G1 Ganaspis cf. brasiliensis Host Searching Behavior.' His research explores the host-seeking behavior of Ganaspis brasiliensis, a natural enemy of Drosophila suzukii, the infamous Asian fruit fly that preys on small fruits. These awards, designed to recognize and encourage young researchers, underscore the excellence of the work being conducted by our colleagues and highlight FEM's international impact on critical research topics.
