Climate change is affecting the quality of the ice that forms in lakes, which is progressively becoming fragile with impacts on planktonic communities. Such discovery comes from the IceBlitz project whose results have been recently published in the journal Nature Communications. The research made it be possible to analyze the quality of the ice in 31 lakes located in the northern hemisphere of the globe. Lake Tovel is also included in this international study thanks to the studies conducted by the Edmund Mach Foundation.
