These days, two summer schools have been held in the laboratories, classrooms, greenhouses and crops of the FEM campus, involving around 80 researchers from all over the world.
The availability of cutting-edge facilities, and FEM active presence within the respective research networks proved to be crucial in the choice of San Michele as the venue for the courses.
The international training initiatives are the Grapedia summer school, organized as part of the homonymous Cost action which aims to offer specialized and high-level training on cutting-edge technologies and methods for the study of the vine genome, and the final event of the G-Bike Cost action focused on genetic biodiversity.
The Grapedia network - coordinated by the University of Verona - provides a single open access platform for the exploration and visualization of data on all the genetic, omics and phenotypic resources of the vine, with tools for comparative analysis and services customized. The course organized at FEM allows about thirty researchers to acquire a solid kit of knowledge on the most advanced computational tools for the analysis of the information produced by the sequencing of genes and genomes with new generation methodologies.
The COST Action G-BikE coordinated by FEM saw the participation of all 40 European associated countries. The aim of the 4-years project was to finally give due prominence to the basic component of biodiversity, the genetic one.
During the final event, the main results achieved by G-BiKE were presented, culminating in the new framework agreement of the Convention on Biological Diversity ratified in December 2022 in COP-15.
