(PSR PAT 2014-2022) The PEI (European Innovation Partnership) project "SMS Green - Circular Bioeconomy: apple-soil sustainability" (abbreviated as SMS Green) aims to close the circle of the fruit supply chain related to apple cultivation, production and processing, applying the principles of bioeconomy, through the introduction of technological and management processes that allow the recovery and valorization of by-products and waste materials for the production of energy from renewable sources and quality soil improvers to be returned to the soil for the restoration of fertility and maintenance of biodiversity.

The Operating Group implementing the project consists of CODIPRA, FEM, Melinda and Agri2000.
The agricultural sector in Trentino shows a strong interest in developing a project that makes the concept of Circular Economy its own, in order to give new life to the waste and by-products of the apple chain, both for the productions damaged directly in the field (e.g., by climatic adversity and/or phytopathologies), and of the final post-processing product (spent marco-apples).
