The presentation on advanced sensor technologies for water resource management in chestnut orchards received recognition for the best flash oral presentation at the Technical Meetings of the Italian Society for Horticultural Science
The BIG – Benessere in Guscio project received recognition at SAIOF, the Technical Meetings of the Italian Society for Horticultural Science, held in Bari last week. The presentation entitled “Advanced sensor systems for water resource management in chestnut orchards: preliminary results from the BIG project” received the recognition for the best flash oral presentation.
The work was presented by Giulio Demetrio Perulli from the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL) of the University of Bologna. The research is the result of a collaboration between the University of Bologna and the Edmund Mach Foundation (FEM) and includes among its authors Luisa Palmieri, project leader of BIG, together with FEM colleagues Elena Gottardini, Fabiana Cristofolini and Federico Pedrazzoli, as well as Edoardo Adriano Mario Tarpinelli and Luigi Manfrini from the University of Bologna.
The presentation focuses on the preliminary results of using advanced sensor systems to monitor water conditions in chestnut orchards, with the aim of collecting data to better understand water–soil–plant interactions and support more efficient water resource management.
The recognition received in Bari highlights the work of the research team and the collaboration between FEM and the University of Bologna within the BIG – Benessere in Guscio project, which focuses on innovation and sustainability in the nut sector.
