An important international recognition has been awarded to the scientific research carried out at Fondazione Edmund Mach. During the recent In Vino Analytica Scientia (IVAS) 2026 congress, one of the world's leading events dedicated to analytical sciences for wine, Panagiotis Arapitsas, Head of FEM's Metabolomics Research Unit, was elected Chair of the Scientific Committee. This prestigious appointment recognizes the researcher's scientific career and confirms Fondazione Edmund Mach's active role within the international wine research community.
The management of Fondazione Edmund Mach expressed great satisfaction with the appointment. "The election of our researcher Panagiotis Arapitsas as Chair of the IVAS Scientific Committee represents an important international recognition of the quality of the research carried out at Fondazione Edmund Mach in the field of wine science," said FEM Director General Riccardo Velasco. "This achievement highlights the work of our research community and confirms the Foundation's role as an international point of reference in wine research."
The election took place during the 14th edition of the congress, recently held in Dijon, France. Established in Bordeaux in 1997, IVAS brings together every two years the world's leading experts in analytical sciences applied to the wine sector. The congress is one of the foremost international forums for discussing topics such as wine chemistry, metabolomics, targeted and untargeted analysis, authenticity and quality of wine products, bioactive compounds, and innovation in analytical methodologies. Over the years, IVAS has been hosted in several international locations, including Bordeaux, Melbourne, Reims, Salamanca, UC Davis, Neustadt and San Michele all'Adige.
Fondazione Edmund Mach has a long-standing presence within the IVAS scientific community. In 2015, FEM hosted the Trentino edition of the congress together with the Laimburg Research Centre, with Fulvio Mattivi and Peter Robatscher serving as Chairs of the Organising Committee. Moreover, Professor Mattivi went on to serve not only as Chair of the Scientific Committee from 2017 to 2022, but also as President of IVAS from 2022 to 2024.
