Extended description
The Green Community project, presented by the Valsugana and Tesino Community, the only one to receive national funding for the Trentino area, falls within the scope of Investment 3.2 of the PNRR.
It was created with the aim of supporting the sustainable and resilient development of rural territories and mountain communities that intend to exploit their natural resources in a balanced way, starting new relationships with urban and metropolitan communities.
Green Communities represent an interesting tool, especially for those territories characterized by elements of marginality. A Green Community, in fact, should always aim to counteract the elements of crisis in internal areas. Such as the decrease in services available in the area, the progressive slowdown of economic activity and the aging of the population, as well as maintaining the respect to conservation and valorization of local environment.
Among the 9 objectives that the project intends to pursue there is also the valorisation of ecosystem services. This could be pursued through, in particular, an agriculture capable of renewing itself while maintaining its production diversification and aiming for an agroecological transition capable of enhancing local production. FEM's intervention is foreseen in the project objective - Ob1 - Proposal of an agroecological transition model for mountain farms'
The approaches and experience developed in Valsugana and Tesino are also examples of other territories in Trentino that want to undertake local development initiatives in which the landscape and rural resources play an important role. In particular, from autumn 2024, under the coordination of the Brenta River Reserves Network, a similar two-year initiative began in the western part of Valsugana with the involvement of 7 municipalities.
Expected results
Selection and training of a representative sample of farms available to experiment with agroecology practices suitable for the mountain area, in order to develop a sustainable farm model supported by training courses and technical assistance.
