Grapevine Physiology and Breeding

Developing scientific knowhow and innovative varieties that resist biotic and abiotic stress to promote sustainable and quality viticulture

Image: 9_IASMA ECO 1 (1)

Mission

Obtain grapevine varieties resistant to biotic and abiotic stress with good grape quality as well as efficient rootstocks. The genetic control of these traits is investigated through the analysis of segregating populations and germplasm collections. In parallel, the activities of crossbreeding, selection and agro-oenological evaluation of seedlings in the greenhouse and in the field integrate the information of molecular markers

Innovation and methods

Research is based on the longterm expertise in the management of germplasm collections and development of new plant materials, phenotyping analysis in field and controlled conditions, genotyping analysis based on molecular markers, and genotype-phenotype association analyses on bi-parental populations

Facilities

Varietal Identification and Grapevine Germplasm Valorization

The platform guarantees the distribution of genetic material for non-commercial purposes and the breeding of plant material, the characterization of disease resistance at both the phenotypic and genetic level, and finally the varietal identification.
